VOLUNTEER

Giving a few hours each week will touch many lives, including your own.

“Volunteering [at Sunday Breakfast Mission] was a very humbling experience. It was important for us to see the impact [Bank of America] has on people in need.”

Thank you for choosing to Volunteer with Sunday Breakfast Mission!

In our efforts to make your service at Sunday Breakfast Mission as rewarding and enjoyable as possible, we have established some of our most frequently asked questions to guide you while volunteering with SBM.

What volunteer areas are available?

  • Administration / Clerical
  • Media / Graphic Arts
  • Facilities (Cleaning, Light Maintenance, Landscaping)
  • Service (Kitchen/Meal Prep, Thrift Store, Food Warehouse)
  • Ministry (Chapel Services, Bible Study)
  • Special Events (Great Thanksgiving Food Outreach and Banquet, Christmas Toy Shop, Back To School Rally)

Do you have a dress code for volunteers?

Always dress appropriately and modestly. (Closed toed shoes; please no flipflops, revealing tank tops or muscle shirts, or bare midriffs)

After I have scheduled a time to volunteer, where do I go to check in on my scheduled day to serve?

Please enter our front entrance and come to the green desk in our Men’s facility lobby.  Remember to sign in and out at the reception desk so that we always know when you are here. After signing in check in with appropriate program staff responsible for your volunteer area.

Do you have areas that I should not enter?

Resident living quarters are off limits to volunteers unless directed by a staff member to enter as part of the volunteer assignment.

How should I conduct myself when volunteering?

Be mindful that exchanging personal information with residents, overnight guests, or community with whom SBM is serving is not permitted. This information includes your residential address, phone number(s), and email address(es).  Please do not invite a resident or guest to your home.  Please do not give presents (incl. books, CDs …), money, clothing or unauthorized rides (including to church) to residents or guests of SBM.

While serving at SBM is safe, we want to remind volunteers to be safe and not take any unnecessary risks.

What should I do if I am ill or cannot serve on my scheduled day to volunteer?

If you have been ill, please do not volunteer until you are fully recovered. This is especially important to remember for those volunteering in the kitchens.  Please call or email SBM Projects/Development Office if you are unable to volunteer on your scheduled day/time.

How old do you have to be to volunteer in the kitchen?

Volunteers working in the kitchen must be at least 18 yrs. old.  However, there are other tasks for those younger than 18 years old in the dining areas.

Can I volunteer more than once?

Sunday Breakfast Mission appreciates the sacrifice and time spent serving by our volunteers.  We invite you to work hard and enjoy your time serving at SBM, and most importantly make plans to come back again and again!

You can help! We need your support.
